The initial appointment
You do not need a referral from your doctor or any other professional, just contact us. Your first step is to arrange to come for an initial assessment (for counselling).
This is an opportunity to meet with an experienced counsellor and to explore the kind of help you are seeking and need.
The counsellor will help you decide if counselling is appropriate for you. This session usually takes between 1-1 1/2 hours. Should it become apparent in the consultation that some other form of help may be more beneficial, we will do our best to recommend an alternative agency. There is a one-off fee for this important session. This cost will be advised to you at the time of your enquiry.
What is the cost of counselling?
We are a non-profit making Charity and rely solely upon the financial contributions of those that use our services to assist towards the costs involved. To enable the Charity to offer the ever increasing range of services required by the community, it is essential that each person pay the maximum he or she can for their counselling sessions. Any shortfall on the full costs has to be subsidised by funds from another source and these sources are limited.
Whilst some can afford the full cost of counselling, we recognise that this maybe beyond the means of others, who are on a low income, or have high outgoings, and so we operate a 'sliding scale' of contributions to a lower limit. This enables counselling to be made available to everyone. The contribution for your counselling will be agreed with you at your initial appointment.
The actual cost to the Charity for each individual counselling session is £40. The information below is a guide to help you decide what level of financial contribution you should make. Please bear in mind that any shortfall on the full fee will have to be subsidised by the Charity from other sources and these are limited.
